russian producer nocow debuts on rekids with five murky tracks this december. based in st. petersburg, nocow is undoubtedly one of russian electronic musics most remarkable protagonists having released on clone, figure, fauxpas musik, gost zvuk and styrax. recognised for maintaining consistency whilst traversing various sub-genres, nocow is as comfortable producing intricate idm and robust techno as he is calm ambient and melancholic electronica. in soul connection a spoken word vocal mutters over metallic percussion and ominous stabs whilst a dense pad washes over everything. an undulating synth and ethereal effects make up disappear before moving onto syncopated drums and shadowy atmospherics in samaya dolgaya noch. next up, stop is comprised of mesmerising melodies, sturdy kicks and a looped vox until nocow concludes the package with a short 2-step cut titled aesthetic mind.

luiz mendes jr or junior mendes was a ubiquitous figure in the brazilian soul / funk scene of the 70s and early 80s, contributing to compositions for bands such as banda black rio, tim maia, sandra de sa and many more. this, his only solo album has remained off the map (unless you re a collector of rare brazilian vinyl). despite his huge contribution to brazilian music the lp has remained unissued until now, 35 years after its recording.

the second release on homage comes from chevals, and once again the vibe is quintessential deep house infused with more than a little soul stew. -see you when i git my heart broken- has funk licks aplenty to keep the party popping, while -please don t- sees that as some kind of challenge to up the ante with even more sassy samples and sizzling strings. -tres racas- finds the chevals getting a little more choppy in the drum department, and then -big man- finishes the ep off with a raucous african atmosphere to set the club alight.

spanish funk, soul and disco champion javi frias returns with the second release on his night shift label, bringing more of that classically informed party-starting business for those who love their classic disco edits. tender feeling sounds like a perfect transplant from the dancefloor of studio 54, while move to the groove is equally entrenched in the finest 70s-styled heat. supah stah and swahili dance are equally no slouches when it comes to channeling the best elements of that golden era disco sound javi frias has this music in his blood and anyone that feels the same will be all over this record, dancers and djs alike.

ervin rucker started out as a pianist and composer in the 1950s. after he released his sole single on musette he changed his name to big daddy rucker in the late 60s. at the same time he founded his own gme label on which he released 45s under his own name as well as this one by dede copeland. the price i had to pay is jazzy soul track while the flip you gotta give up some money is an excellent sister funk cut. both cuts can also be found on the tramp records album the soulful side of gme & musette records

reginald omas mamode iv has a terrific track record thus far. since delivering his debut 12inch back in 2013, hes barely put a foot wrong, with last years intimate friends released mini-album, all together, being a particular highlight. this debut full-length is every bit as impressive as youd expect, with the peckham producer relying a little less on dusty samples, and rather more on loose, live drums, rubbery bass guitar, dreamy rhodes keys, and other luscious instrumentation. as usual, the assembled tracks effortlessly join the dots between jazzy instrumental hip-hop, neo-soul, mauritian drum workouts, broken beat and humid, tropical-tinged grooves.

in october 2016, members from the afro cuban band compro oro, funk and soul congregation big whoop and electronic duo sue avenue, submitted themselves to the windowless walls of the desolated buildings of the american theatre in brussels (be) to engage in experiment. the resulting nine hours and forty minutes of jams were edited and arranged to the final tracks on this carrier.
